New Year, New Work, New Store!
and a new newsletter
Hello Friends,
We’ve survived the atmospheric river that just swept across California and dumped literal buckets of rain! I love this weather (minus the landslides and flooding). It reminds me of watching redwood trees sway outside my window during the epic rainstorms of my childhood in Northern California. I hope wherever you are, you’re staying cozy and finding something to enjoy about the February weather.
Did you notice that this newsletter has a new look? As you may have heard, Mailchimp is shutting down its TinyLetter service, which is what I’ve used for years. So starting today I’m sending this from Beehiiv. It’s been a steep learning curve to figure out a new platform, but it seems like a great option. Let me know if you have any trouble opening or reading this. I hope you like it!
Forgotten Spaces
I’m excited to be included in this group show at the Walt Meade Gallery in Roxbury, NY opening on February 17th. From the Press Release:
“This exhibition highlights the gradual decay of once vibrant spaces, reflecting on how both buildings on backroads and the structures we inhabit over the course of our lives can become landmarks for growth and grief.”
Landmarks for growth and grief is an apt and poetic way to describe the abandoned buildings I seek out to represent in my art. It’s also fitting for the still lifes I began making during lockdown. It’s exciting to be part of a show with other artists exploring so many of the same issues I address in my work. I’ll be in upstate NY in late March/early April and will get to see the show in person and the many friends I miss so much!
This piece “Salton Sea Flag” will be included in the show.
New Works
I’ve been exploring different color combinations while creating larger abstract works. I’m working exclusively with recycled, naturally dyed fabrics in a rainbow of colors and stretching them to give a more painterly finish.
This piece has been stretched on wooden stretcher bars.
This is finished but still needs to be stretched up!
Website Store
I’ve been saying I’m going to add a store to my website for a while now and … new year, new store! Please check it out and if you’re looking for gifts for yourself or a loved one, please consider supporting my art business. I couldn’t do it without you! I’ll be updating it regularly with more small works, various colors of silk pillow cases and scarves and other bits and bobs. Click on the link below to see more.
Love, Caitlin
